| Friends of Hickory Hill Park Student Workdays 2008 For all events, wear closed shoes, long pants and bring a pair of gloves, if you can. Bring water and a snack. Here is a map of the park from Google Maps. The North Dodge Hy-Vee and the Conklin Lane entrance are marked in the upper left of the map, while the 1st Avenue Entrance is marked on the right side of the map. Signup: For all activities it would be appreciated if you inform us of your intent to participate. For the Prescribed Burn Crew, follow instructions above. For other activities, we would like participants to send us an e-mail at the address below, with the day and time of the event that you plan to attend, just so we have a rough idea how many to expect, No limits on how many can attend. You will not receive a response. fhhp_volunteer@ureach.com Bus: For events on Saturdays, volunteers may ride the North Dodge bus to the event. The bus leaves downtown on the hour (9:00, or 1:00). The events are timed to fit the bus schedule. For the North Dodge (Conklin) St. entrance, exit the bus by the HyVee on North Dodge, go across Dodge and walk down Conklin street. For the Bloomington St. entrance, exit the bus at Rochester and 7th Avenue. Cross Rochester St., and start walking North on 7th. You will quickly see a sidewalk on the left leading into the park. Bus service is not available on Sundays. Here is the bus schedule. March 8 (Sat) 1:30PM to 4:30PM: Firebreak preparation, led by Mike Fallon Cutting and piling brush, mowing and raking grassy vegetation, to prepare firebreak for a controlled burn. Report to the North Dodge (Conklin) Street entrance. See clothing suggestions and signup information above. March 9 to April 22: Prescribed Fire burn crew, led by Mike Fallon Must be willing to work (on weekend) at short notice. For this activity only, you must sign up in advance with Mike Fallon in advance by sending an e-mail to mike@native-landscaping.com. Participate in a controlled burn of grassland or brush area in Hickory Hill Park. See clothing suggestions above. April 13th (Sun) 9:00AM to 12:00PM: Garlic mustard pull, led by CJ Voci Rain or shine. Pulling invasive garlic mustard, and bagging the pulled plants for removal. Report to the Bloomington Street entrance. See clothing suggestions and signup information above. April 13th (Sun) 1:00PM to 4:00PM: Garlic mustard pull, led by Pete Kollasch Rain or shine. Pulling invasive garlic mustard, and bagging the pulled plants for removal. Report to the Bloomington Street entrance. See clothing suggestions and signup information above. April 19th (Sat) 9:30AM to 12:30PM: Garlic mustard pull and Heritage tree management, led by Pete Kollasch and Joan Jehle Rain or shine. Pulling invasive garlic mustard, and bagging the pulled plants for removal. Also weed pulling and mulch management around Heritage trees. Report to the North Dodge (Conklin) Street entrance.
