The two north prairies: west side: lots of golden alexanders, little evidence of non-native forbs at this point. East side (&quot;transvaal&quot;): first burn seems to be favoring forbs (goldenrod, bergamot, etc.). Dogwood killed back somewhat removing competition from young bur oaks (a great thing!). Field sparrows apparently still nesting, heard off in the northeast corner of the transvaal.</p> <p>Eastern-most prairie: southeast corner, along the west side of the creek, has lots of cool species including mountain mint (pycnantheum virgianum), cup plant, wild coffee (triosteum perfoliatum) and what I think is Illinois tick trefoil. Burns don't appear to have disrupted field sparrows.
